Bodegas Enrique Mendoza: A Must-Visit Wine Tasting in Alicante
The province of Alicante offers unique experiences for travellers looking for more than just sun and beaches. Its landscape, traditions and strong local character make it an ideal destination for enjoying different kinds of experiences, where wine and local culture take centre stage. In this context, wine tourism in Alicante has become one of the most appealing activities for visitors.
One of the most highly recommended stops on the Alicante Wine Route is Bodegas Enrique Mendoza, located in Alfaz del Pi. This winery is a true benchmark thanks to its long-standing history, its respect for winemaking traditions and the outstanding quality of its Spanish wines with a strong sense of identity.
Enjoying this experience is easy if you are staying on the Costa Blanca. Just a 15-minute drive from the Servigroup Montíboli Hotel, the winery makes for a comfortable and highly recommended excursion during your stay. The hotel is the ideal starting point for exploring Alfaz del Pi and enjoying some of the finest wines of the region.
Bodegas Enrique Mendoza: from its origins to the present day

Enrique Mendoza began his journey into the world of wine in the 1970s, initially producing wine for family and friends. What started as a hobby soon turned into a true passion, leading him to take the next step and professionalise his project.
The land in Alfaz del Pi, where the winery was originally established, was ideal for growing Moscatel Romano grapes. However, its proximity to the sea and high humidity levels made it difficult to achieve the style and quality of wine Mendoza had envisioned. This led him to search for new land that would allow him to fulfil his dream of producing high-quality wines using French grape varieties, brought specifically for this purpose.
This search resulted in the creation of the El Chocanero estate in Villena, where carefully selected French vines were planted, despite initial uncertainty about their adaptation to the soil. The goal was clear: to create wines with greater character, quality and personality.

Today, the winery cultivates around 12,000 vines of international grape varieties such as Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Pinot Noir, Petit Verdot, Shiraz and Chardonnay, alongside the revival of Monastrell, a grape deeply rooted in the region. In total, more than 300,000 plants are currently in production.
These French château-style wines have received numerous awards, including labels such as the Santa Rosa blend and the single-varietal Estrecho, both highly rated by renowned wine critic Robert Parker. These wines can be enjoyed during your visit to the winery in Alfaz del Pi as well as at the Emperador Restaurant in our hotel.
