The Opera Madama Butterfly

Representation of Madama Butterfly

A work that the Italian composer Giacomo Puccini, creator of great operas such as La Boheme and Tosca, made immortal.

A piece based on the book by Pierre Loti Madama Chrysanthemum that Puccini turned into an operatic masterpiece moving the whole world and catapulting Madama Butterfly to the top of the operas most represented by operatic companies.

A Work, that on its premiere at La Scala in Milan, did not garner very good reviews, and that Puccini would rewrite from two to three acts (by dividing the second act in two) and making other successful changes, which made the second version of the opera, which premiered again in Brescia and which was a success and conquering the sibylline audience.

Madama Butterfly has travelled from Italy to the United States, passing through Argentina, the United Kingdom, New York, Paris, Spain and Japan... performing in the most important theatres on the globe; has been starred by performers of the likes of Rosina Storchio, Giuseppe De Luca, Geraldine Farrar and Enrico Caruso, Plácido Domingo and Monserrat Caballé, María Callas, Amy Castles and Tamaki Miura among others, being in turn adapted from the theatre and taken to the cinema on 8 occasions.

Puccini's opera in which the author reflects his particular universe based on a great woman (heroine) who, like him, is insecure, melancholic and vulnerable but never submissive; a woman who conquers us and manages to enter into the hearts of the spectators because of her fragility, sensitivity and delicacy, as well as her tragic history and the narrative power of the musical pieces of the Italian composer, which move you again and again.
