The red carpet is once again rolled out in Alicante

For this 14th edition of the Alicante Film Festival, there will be new themes in different contents and categories that you will greatly enjoy if you are a huge fan of the big screen   

Once again, Vicente Seba will be at the forefornt, however, it will be the Alicante composer Luis Ivars who will chair a jury composed of Nieves Sánchez, winner of four Goya Awards for her eye-catching hairdressing skills, the actress Marisol Limiñana, the Elche Independant Film Festival director Vicente Sanchís Raggio and the writer and journalist Mariano Sánchez Soler.

The Alicante Film Festival new principal judging panel will select the contests winning feature film. However, another panel of judges specialising in animation will judge short animation films, whilst another expert judging panel will select short international films   

The Lucentum 2017 award this year will fall into the hands of Fernando Colomo in recognition for all his work. The presentation will take place on May 20th during the opening ceremony.

Participating Feature Films

The competing feature films have different appealing themes that will be screened over different days of the festival.  In fact, some titles have already been mentioned as possible winners. Como la Espuma, from the director Roberto Pérez, anticipates a comedy plot of a mysterious party invitation  phone message that quickly goes viral.        

Another featured title is Intercambio, from the director Ignacio Nacho. A compelling thriller in which the storyline revolves around swingers and recounts in modern day diaologue the consequences of an encounter that had an unexpected outcome.

Social Film

The social film section will once again surprise us with an appealing theme delivered over five productions and which will once again finish with the presentation of the sixth edition of the literary work Film and Pediatrics.

This year, the production directed by Óscar Bernácer, El hombre que embotelló el sol (The man who bottled the sun) tells of how Benidorm began taking its first steps to becoming one of the most acclaimed international tourist resorts, at the hands of the Mayor, D.Pedro Zaragoza.    

The man who bottled the sun,Another outstanding production that will be presented at the Alicante Film Festival Social Section will be Ovidi by Vicent Tamarit, which shows us the unknown side of the remarkable and late singer-songwriter and author Ovidi Montllor interpreted by Eduard Fernández.    Also, on Monday May 22nd, there will be an exhibition of short LGTB themed films. In this presentation, directors (known and unknown) will present their most recent work focused on different specific sitautions related to a homosexual context.      by Óscar Bernácer

European Film

With the intention to promote during the festival, films produced in our neighbouring countries, the European Short Film Award began to form part of the Alicante Film Festival in 2014.   So, once again the European Short Film Award will be presented to the short film director who most impresses the judges with their work.

Countries such as Belgium, Norway and France are among possible winners with titles such as Dem Dem! and A night and Caramel mou.     These short films of diverse categories display various styles and durations of between 5 and 28 minutes.    

 

Festival Awards 

The Alicante Film Festival Tesela de Oro Award (Tesela Gold Award)will once again be awarded for Best Film and the corresponding awards, Tesela de Plata (Tesela Silver) for Best Director, Best Actor and Best Actress.

At these next awards, the Tesela de Plata Award (Tesela Silver Award) will be given for Best Screenplay

The Judges will also award the Sergio Balseyro Critic Award to the Best Film as well as a prize to the best Short Fiction Film which will be awarded 1500 €In the European Short Film Award, there will be prizes for the Best Screenplay, Best Actor and Best Director of Short Films 

At international level, there will only be an award for Best European Short Film.   In addition, the winners of the fiction and animation categories will have the opportunity to be selected for the next edition of the Goya Awards. 

 

Previous Awards

At the last awards, films such as Neckan by Gonzalo Tapia (Sergio Balseyro critic award for Best Film),  
La Puerta Abierta (The Open Door), Tesela Gold  award for Best Film, La Señora Jesús Mari (Best Short Film) and El Tiempo de Monstruos (Tesla Gold award for Best Director Félix Sabroso) received rapturous applauses from the audience at the end of each of their screenings.

Juanjo Puigcorbé was once again awarded the Tesela de Plata (Tesela Silver Award) for Best Actor for Juegos de Familia (Family Games) and Terele Pávez and Carmen Machi shared the Tesela de Plata Award (Tesela Silver Award) for Best Actress, for their roles in la Puerta Abierta (The Open Door).

Futhermore, La Señora Jesus Mari, from the director Aitor Arenas became the Alicante Film Festival Short Film winner at the same time that the award for best short film director went to Alián Aliaga for The Walker

The legendary Lucentum award was awarded to the veteran Imanol Uribe and amid no fewer applauses and ovations Juan Echanove received the Honorary Award for his artistic career.
